A casino could soon be built in Pickering, a real estate development firm said on Tuesday.
The future entertainment complex is called Durham Live and should include an indoor water park, movie studios, hotels and convention space. The company behind the project is Ontario Gaming GTA LP. It aims to create more than 10,000 jobs, including at least 2,000 jobs in the casino itself.
The casino would be built near Highway 401. The company is now seeking all required permits from the municipality. No deadline has been advanced.
Two companies are behind Ontario Gaming GTA LP, which is the Great Canadian Gaming Corporation and Brookfield Business Partners.
Last summer, the Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation (OLG) chose the company to manage three gaming facilities in the Greater Toronto Area, including Woodbine Racetrack in Toronto.
